Akumal means “place of the turtles” in Mayan, and the sheltered bay is known for its calm, clear water. It is a relaxed, low-rise stretch of coast, which makes it a good setting for unhurried couple and family sessions.
Early morning is the best time: the water is still, the beach is empty and the light is soft. Late afternoon works well too.

Akumal is roughly a 25-minute drive from Tulum, so it fits easily around a Tulum trip, or on its own if you are staying in Akumal for the week.
